Welcome to my website! Although I've been taking photographs all my life with various film and digital cameras, I didn't really know what I was doing - any 'good' photographs that I managed to take were just down to pure luck. Then Gwen (my wife) bought me a Canon bridge camera for Christmas 2012, and I decided to join a photographic club (ADAPS: http://www.adaps.org.uk/) in order to gain an appreciation of the camera and its controls, and how to improve my photography.
My enthusiasm took leaps and bounds when I saw the quality of the images that the members of ADAPS had produced, so I invested in a Canon 6D full-frame DSLR camera together with a number of lenses for general use, portraits, and wildlife photography. I've quickly moved up the learning curve, which has led to some of my images having success in the club competitions, and this has fired my passion even further. I was later appointed Vice Chairman of our Photographic Society.
I've also been motivated by the excellent Photoshop-created images by some of the club members, so I spend a lot of time learning Photoshop and thoroughly enjoy creating composite images by combining a number of my images.
Not satisfied with learning photography informally, I took a photography diploma course - a distance learning course run by the Photography Institute - and got my diploma in March 2015, having learned a lot about the technical and artistic side of photography.
I have since invested in a Canon 5D for portrait work, a Canon 7D which takes 10 images a second, making it great for wildlife - especially birds in flight, a Nikon D750, and my latest camera is a Nikon D850 which I will also be using for wildlife. I have also purchased quite a lot of studio lighting and equipment.
Gwen also took up photography as a hobby, and she has had success with some of her images in our club competitions.
We have been very lucky to travel extensively, both in the UK and world-wide, to be able to capture some great images and, of course, wonderful memories.
I hope you enjoy looking at my images.
